Beneficiaries of TVYP’s services
Our target area is 24 very rural parishes
of North Herefordshire and South
Shropshire but young people can sign
in visitors and friends from elsewhere, and anyone may use our community facilities. As a Youth charity the priority group is disadvantaged young people between 14 (school year 9) and 25 but we recognise that wider community development will greatly benefit young people and help them to flourish as part of a more integrated community.

How many people benefit every year Numbers:
Around 100 young people aged 14 –25 benefit directly every year and over 1000 wider community users and visitors each year accessing information, opportunities, services and resources. In addition the local rural community benefits indirectly from positive activities available for young people, their skills raised and a more inclusive community.

Organisation structure
Teme Valley Youth Project has a Charitable Board of 6 people, two youth Trustees, two Trustees with Youth Work Expertise and backgrounds, and two Trustees with an interest in young people and associated expertise (e.g. currently one is a youth worker and builder, one specialises in after school clubs and learning initiatives/ Further Education). The Executive meetings are attended by the Project Manager, two or three youth observers with Youth Programme Development Worker for support and periodic additional invited expertise.

There is one sub committee which is Teme Valley Youth Group Youth Committee it has 10 to 12 officers including two over 25 year old youth worker advisers who support the committee attending each one, helping officers to fulfil their duties but who have no vote. This ensures the project continues to be responsive to youth needs in a way that is contemporary and relevant.

We are very proud of our achievements. Since our inception in 1984, we have:
* Built an exciting Youth and Community Resource Centre (235m2)
* Developed a continuously improving and expanding programme of Youth and Community
* provision.
* Met our revenue funding targets over the last 13 years
* Improved the opportunities for isolated 14-25’s including young people who are
* manifesting dangerous /unhealthy behaviours e.g. drug/alcohol misuse, unsafe sex,
* bullying, poor eating habits, dangerous driving. Many of the young people have low
* incomes, self-esteem and limited aspirations.
* Attracted around a thousand visitors a year.
* Built a more cohesive community - in addition to visitors who access centre resources, we
*
have successfully worked with many parents/carers who have concerns and are
* unsupported. We developed volunteering opportunities for over 60 adult volunteers over
* the last three years and hosted many community events and workshops.
* Created a highly successful volunteering development programme - Last year we
* supported 50 youth volunteers (64% being young men) retention has been excellent
* with 82% continuing to volunteer this year. 37 adults volunteered with 35% continuing
* this year (As many over 25’s volunteer for one-off activities e.g. a talk about their
* profession so retention is lower.)
* Built strong partnerships with agencies involved in youth and family support
* Developed a highly skilled staff team
* Dealt with over 25,000 youth issues since 2002
* Sessions increased from 96 a year in 2002 to 242 in 05/06.

Our Funders
We survive by a mix of funding from many sources each year (see Annual accounts for examples). We are grateful to our many funders that have helped us to reach this point. We hope current and future funders will continue to support us to complete the next challenging and critical developmental stage of this flagship venture in North Herefordshire.

We have received much regional and National acclaim for our achievements to date and have already helped many other groups by sharing our experience and expertise. In 2007 for example:
* Five TVYP young people came 3rd in Herefordshire Voluntary Action’s Young Volunteer of the year awards. One young person gained an HCVYS young champion award, the Youth Committee were recognized by the Nationwide Building Society awards for Volunteering Endeavour and three young people gained West Mercia Police Good Citizen Awards with one going through to the regional final in September.
* We are sharing our experience of youth and community volunteering with the Herefordshire Young Peoples Volunteering Group contributing to a countywide application for ‘V’ funding and developing future volunteering opportunities and support for young people.
* We contribute to cross sector youth services strategies in Herefordshire through Herefordshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services and the voluntary sector in general through the Voluntary sector assembly.
