Youth Volunteering - How to get involvedThere are some great ways of getting involved in everything that TVYP has to offer. Most of our club members are also volunteers and help in all kinds of ways at the Centre. You can do as little or as much as you want!
Here are some of the ways young people currently volunteer at TVYP: First & Seconds: First & Seconds help to run all youth club sessions at TVYP. Two people (the First and Second) do some basic checks around the Centre before the start of each session. They also set up the refreshments, computer and games and clear away at the end. The ‘First’ is also responsible for the keys during the session. Firsts & Seconds get paid volunteer expenses each time they do these tasks. Youth Committee: The Youth Committee at Teme Valley Youth Project is really important and plays a vital role in all workings at the Centre, from hiring staff to programme planning and fundraising. Members must attend a meeting on the first Tuesday of every month and get the chance to decide what trips, events and activities happen. They organize and enjoy a residential and can access some opportunities before other club members to say thanks for their help and to help them do a good job. Peer Promotion Team: Just what it says on the tin! Peer Promoters are young people who go out and about to local festivals and events, with support from staff, to promote TVYP to other local young people. In 2007, the team helped to design their own mobile youth zone and T-shirts, and each received accreditation for the work they did, and a free T-shirt to keep! Organising an event / project: If you have an idea for an event or project then TVYP can help you make it happen! Whether you want to be part of a bike maintenance workshop; host a cult movie night for your mates; set up a chess tournament - or anything else you can think of! - We will help you to apply for funding, plan, and make your idea a reality.
Here are some other ways you may want to volunteer at TVYP:
Fundraising; making displays and using I.T. equipment; gaining valuable
experience by lending a hand in the office; tidying up; cooking; D.I.Y;
gardening – and almost anything else you can think of!

From time

Applicants should have a keen interest in young people’s issues and the
aims and objectives of the charity. At the moment, we would welcome
applications from young people to be Youth Trustees (must be over 18 and
under 26) and candidates (all ages) with expertise in either Legal
or Finance. The youth committee currently has vacancies for a Secretary, Treasurer and Vice Treasurer. To be a youth committee member, you must be aged 14-25 and a member of TVYP. Go to Young people.
Other
ways to get involved:
You can volunteer as little or as much as you want; regularly or as a one off – it’s up to you. We try to be as flexible and helpful as possible when looking after the needs of our volunteers.

Accreditation: TVYP keep detailed records of all the volunteering done at, and on behalf of, TVYP. We make certificates for all our young volunteers once a year, detailing how many hours volunteering they have achieved over the past year, and what they did. And we make special mention of our community volunteers, who can also receive a certificate if they wish. The Voluntary Programme Development Worker is happy to enrol volunteers on a national volunteering scheme if desired.
Appreciation: We really appreciate the valuable work our VIPs (Volunteers in partnership and VERY Important People) do at TVYP. We like to say THANK YOU as much as we can, by sending cards, putting on social events and keeping volunteers informed about what’s going on at TVYP.
Awards: In 2007, some of our young volunteers received well deserved regional recognition for the volunteering they do at Teme Valley Youth Project. Neil Goulding, Sam Bruce, Andrew Evans, Michael Pierzynowski and Laura Dufort collectively won third prize at the Herefordshire Volunteer of the Year Awards for individual volunteering efforts across a wide range of areas from cooking to fundraising and organising events. They received certificates and a cheque for £25. Laura, Neil and Sam also received Good Citizen Awards from the West Mercia Constabulary, with Sam going forward to a finalist’s gala presentation in October at which he was presented with a cheque for £50 and a pen set. Andrew received a Young Champion Award from Herefordshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services (HCVYS) for tirelessly volunteering over a number of years at TVYP. Zoe Williams was short listed for an award in the Pride in Herefordshire Awards. And finally, the 2006/7 Youth Committee received a certificate congratulating them for the contribution they have made to the youth group and the wider community from the Nationwide Building Society Awards for Voluntary Endeavour.Back To Top |
